{ One of his adoption photos - seriously, how could I say no to that face?! }
I have been toying with the idea of getting another dog since I moved out to Chicago - Callie was raised around other dogs (my mom has three and my dad has two) and I felt guilty about her being alone so often with my busy schedule. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason so I spent the last (almost) year casually browsing Petfinder, with the belief that when I saw the right dog, I'd know. I even applied for a few pups that caught my eye, but things just didn't end up working out. But then I saw Mr. Holden, who was named Durango after the model SUV that hit him in a rural, poor area of Minnesota. He was taken to the vet immediately by the driver and managed to escape the accident unscathed, but then found himself in a shelter since he had no collar, tags or microchip. After only a week there the poor guy was scheduled to be euthanized but was saved by Homeless Hounds Rescue and placed in foster care.
He's the biggest mush and is happiest when he's napping next to you. Big sis Callie is adjusting well and both doggies are tandem dog walking like champs (which makes my life a heck of a lot easier). I couldn't be happier with my new addition and am so grateful that there are such fantastic rescues out there like Homeless Hounds and Perfect Pets (where I adopted Callie from) that save the lives of so many pups who ended up on death row in a shelter just because there are too many other dogs there.

What a handsome hound. Handsome name too! I grew up with beagles. They're my favorite. Good that Callie is adjusting so well! I don't know what it's like to have two dogs in the city but Im sure they'll be BFFS if not already.
ReplyDeleteSo sad, right? Callie was also a rescue and I'm determined to do all that I can to support local rescue organizations and adopt when possible. Such sweet dogs end up being put to sleep for no reason, especially in a bad economy like this :(
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much! I am such a huge believer in adopting animals since there are so so many poor dogs that end up homeless when they've done nothing wrong.
ReplyDeleteThey sure are cuties! I have never owned a hound (grew up with labs/shepherds/collies) so it's been really interesting to see how different he is from Callie.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Katelyn! It's been really amazing to see Holden adjust and accept me as his "new person". He's such a sweet little guy - breaks my heart to think about what he's been through.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new addition! So cute!! There is nothing like loving and being loved by a pet and especially one who has been rescued. So glad you're sharing your story.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweetie - I grew up with a beagle so they always make me smile!
ReplyDeleteHe is precious. I am so, so glad that there are people like you and places like Homeless Hounds Rescue. Animals don't deserve to be put down because they are effing homeless... urgh. He really, truly is precious and I know he'll get lots of love with you!!!
ReplyDeleteHe's such a cutie.. I want a doggy so badly.
ReplyDeleteI love little Holden's face. He's SO adorable!
ReplyDeleteWell he looks beyond precious and I bet Callie is glad to have someone home with her while you're away! It's so great to see other bloggers out there supporting shelters and their mission to save who'd otherwise be put to death simply because they're inconvenient!
