recently read // lean in.

I can very clearly remember the day I first stumbled across an article online about Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook – I was completely fascinated by this woman. After reading one article I spent hours online trying to read everything I could find about her, she was so incredibly inspiring. There was something so refreshing and comforting to find a woman who was openly speaking about the obvious differences between men and women in the business world, the same very things I already had began experiencing early on in my career. She just got it.

When Sheryl announced the release of her book, Lean In, I instantly pre-ordered my copy from Amazon (even though it was months in advance). I didn’t need to wait to hear what the critics had to say or see how the book had been rated by readers – I was so anxious to hear more from this woman beyond the insights that could be shared within an article. The day that my book finally arrived was a very exciting one for me as I had been eagerly tracking the package online, it was finally here.

Lean In is a must read for any woman who is serious about her career – there is an endless amount that we, as women, can learn from Sheryl. As I have watched the buzz grow around her book launch and tour, I am feeling more optimistic than ever that the time is now for the norms within the workplace to change and for women to no longer apologize or feel guilty about their successes.

After weeks of counting down, I will be hearing Sheryl speak tomorrow during a Chicago stop of her book tour and I absolutely cannot wait. Who knows, maybe my dream chatting over a lunch of In-N-Out burger with her could come true one day – we shall see.
