Maybe I’m late to the game here but I wanted to share a new little trick that has revolutionized my skincare routine and done wonders for clearing up my skin: the double cleanse. It’s exactly what it sounds like, you wash your face twice – but before you think I’m insane and close this tab in your browser because ain’t nobody got time for that, hear me out. Skincare Secret // The Double Cleanse.Product favorites:

Round one of the double cleanse is an oil cleanse. This is something I thought was totally nuts for awhile – I have troublesome skin and I thought that oil was the last thing I wanted anywhere near my face but I’ve found that an oil cleanser is actually the most effective way to remove makeup, hands down. Start with a dry face and massage about a tablespoon of oil cleanser all over your face, including your eye area to break down all of your makeup (oil cleansing is literally the only thing I have ever discovered that can remove Benefit’s They’re Real mascara. It’s a lifesaver!). Then wet your hands and massage some more before rinsing. Bam! Makeup free.

And now that your makeup is out of the way, it’s time to give your face a good wash. For this part of the step I’ve been alternating between a cream cleanser and a gentle exfoliating scrub to buff away dead skin and also wash without drying skin out (which makes your face create more oil, aka more zits if you’re acne prone). Rinse well and you’re good to go.

I started doing a double cleanse as part of my night time skin routine a few months ago and it’s made a HUGE difference in the appearance of my skin and in helping keep acne under control. If you have a face full of makeup and only wash your face once, you’re spending a lot of time rubbing that makeup around on your face and then rinsing vs. actually being able to clean (which is why you’re likely to still see makeup on your bathroom towel even after you’ve washed). So go ahead and take the extra minute to try out a double cleanse and I bet you’ll become hooked!
