Gratitude Gifting with eBay.

Last week, I filled you in on my not-so-secret Christmas obsession and shared a few shopping tips. This week, I want to fill you in on one of my favorite destinations for one-of-a-kind holiday gifts: eBay! I’ve been a huge fan of eBay for years, often turning to the site to score awesome deals on a huge variety of items, from buying Burt’s Bees lip balm in bulk (guilty) to using the website as my own treasure trove for vintage shopping without the mess that can come from scouring thrift stores or estate sales. It always amazes me what you can find on eBay with just a few quick searches. So if you’re looking for a unique gift to give someone, eBay’s got you covered.

When it comes to my holiday gift-giving, I love the challenge of coming up with unexpected gifts for my friends and family. Forget asking them what they want—there’s something extra satisfying about gifting them something they didn’t even know they wanted! I’ve spent the past few months scheming up my holiday gift ideas. I knew I wanted to gift something special to my boyfriend, Blaine, before the holiday season even got started as a thank you for everything he does. This has been a really big year for us, with our move out to San Francisco, starting new jobs and moving in together. There has been a lot of ups and downs for me personally as I adjusted to the new city, went through two new jobs and adapted to having a roommate for the first time in my life. And let me tell ya: He’s been there for me through it all, and his patience is appreciated more than I can ever say.

In the spirit of gratitude that comes with Thanksgiving and the kickoff of the holiday season, I turned to eBay to grab a little surprise for B to thank him for everything and showcase how excited I am for our very first holiday season under the same roof. I didn’t want to go too over the top (hey, Christmas gifts are still to come!), but I wanted the gift to feel really personal and be something I knew he’d never think of for himself. He tends to be difficult to shop for because he’ll buy himself anything he really needs instead of waiting for gifts. ;) Given his interest in craft beer and his passion for trying the latest and greatest from the beer world, I came up with a little idea to kick off our long staycation Thanksgiving weekend: a six-pack of beer in a one-of-a-kind beer carrier.

I started things off on eBay and did a quick search for “vintage beer” to get some ideas and inspiration and a feel for what was out there. Vintage beer sign? Nah… Too bachelor pad. Vintage beer cans? Cool, but we don’t really have the space. Vintage beer carrier? Bingo. I loved how unique yet functional the carrier was. I knew it would be an awesome conversation piece for our home and a great way to bring along Blaine’s favorite beers when heading to friends’ houses.

To accessorize things a bit, I did some more digging around eBay’s “vintage beer” offerings and stumbled upon the amazing world of brass vintage bottle openers. There are seriously endless shapes and options! After losing a bidding war on a brass alligator, I snatched up this brass key bottle opener, which will look great on display in a bar area for years to come.

To finish out the gift, I headed to our local beer store to grab a six pack of one of B’s latest favorite beers to take the coolness factor of the six-pack carrier to the next level. The results? One very happy guy who is ready to kick off the Thanksgiving weekend with a cheers to our first year together and the gratitude we have for each other.
