“Run a half marathon” officially got a check mark next to it on my bucket list.  On Sunday I dragged my butt across the finish line of the Chicago Women’s Half Marathon, got myself a shiny medal and immediately went home and signed up for two more half marathons before the Chicago Marathon in October.  Was it because I loved it?  Heck no.  Sunday’s race was one of the most miserable experiences of my life – being sick + running 13.1 miles + 85 degrees is one nasty combination.  I had to throw all of my goals out the window around mile three when I began to feel lightheaded and was forced to walk for a bit (something I never do – run really slow? Sure. Walk? No.) – everything in me was telling me that this was a terrible idea and there was no way I could do it with how I was feeling.  But I kept on, and eventually, finished.

While initially I was pretty bummed out about this situation and couldn’t believe that after three months of training I ended up sick on race weekend, I realized that it didn’t really matter.  I still finished and beat that little voice in my head telling me that there was no way I could do it the entire time.  I’m now more excited than ever for upcoming races and can’t wait to show the 13.1 who’s boss the next two times around.

There’s something strangely fun about comebacks, huh?

Note: I know this post is a few days overdue and I apologize there have been crickets around here – I’ve been sick since Friday and have been spending most of my time either sleeping or coughing like crazy.  I’m still not feeling great but it’s time to get back to blogging.  Being sick is one of my least favorite things ever – being forced to relax is my idea of torture and I hate having no control over how I’m feeling.  Thanks for being patient, xo.
